The Toronto Browncoats: Doing Good Works.

To put it simply, Can't Stop the Serenity is a message, a mission, and a movement all in one.

The Message: all people, regardless of gender, are deserving of equality and respect.

Unfortunately, there are still countries all over the world where women and girls are denied this basic human right and are subjugated, controlled and punished by religions, governments and other institutions.

We cannot stand by and silently watch this happen.

The Mission: to do good works.

Beginning as 'Serenity Now, Equality Now' in 2006, fans of Joss Whedon's series Firefly, collectively known as 'Browncoats', hosted charity screenings of Serenity, the feature film sequel to Firefly, with the proceeds going to Joss's charity of choice, Equality Now.

"Equality Now was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses." ~ Equality Now website.

The Movement: anyone can make a difference; no effort is insignificant.

Can't Stop the Serenity has grown to global proportions. In the five years since the first charity screenings, over $1,000,000.00 has been raised for Equality Now and other charities by Browncoats in more than 50 cities all over the world. And the numbers are growing. Each year sees more new fans and more funds raised for worthy causes.

2015 will be the Tenth Big Year of Can't Stop the Serenity. With your help, we're getting the message out, doing good works, and making a difference.
